According to The Athletic’s Ethan Strauss, at the D-League showcase, several NBA execs indicated Karl-Anthony Towns is “unhappy” with the current state of the 11-20, 13th in the Western Conference Minnesota Timberwolves. Strauss also reports the Timberwolves would be interested in acquiring Russell to pair with Towns via trade ( the two are close friends and there were rumblings of Russell going to Minnesota this past offseason). The Warriors, apparently, have envisioned a different trade scenario with the Wolves.
Unhappy as Towns may or may not be in Minnesota, the Timberwolves certainly should not be in a hurry to even consider trading him. He is in the first year of a 5-year, $190 million deal, giving them several seasons before they would find themselves in an Anthony Davis type ordeal.
Additionally, could Golden State put together a package enticing enough to pry KAT out of the twin cities? Would something centered around Russell, Eric Paschal and multiple picks get it done? Golden State may be better served if they waited until after the season because if they have a high draft pick to add to their offer, it increases the chances of getting a deal done.
